I know it is still preseason but I think a big sleeper at TE could be Brent Celek of the Eagles. With L.J Smith reinjuring his sports hernia this guy could step up big. He has looked great in both games so far, and being targeted a whole lot. He runs great after the catch, and also a great blocker. McNabb looked pretty good in his one start and I hope stays healthy. This guy Celek could be the real deal. Totally my opinion but I like what I have seen.

Celek has been the most impressive player of the team's rookies and could be the starter, if veteran L.J. Smith (groin injury) is not ready. Celek has shown excellent hands, the ability to get yards after the catch and is a better blocker than advertised. He has outperformed veteran backup Matt Schobel throughout camp, and he had a good preseason game in Baltimore. Let's not jump on the Celek bandwagon yet. He still needs to prove himself before you use a roster spot on him. But he's definitely worth keeping tabs on.

I totally agree with that. I wouldn't get him as my starting TE, but definately someone I will have eyes on. I may wait a little longer to draft a TE, and get someone more in the middle, instead of a bigger name TE. Hopefully he will continue to do what he has, and I could pick him up down the road.

Download my podcast on Tight Ends if you get the chance. My strategy is the same for tight ends, kickers, and defenses. I want a top 5 player at all of these positions, but not the top player by having to reach. That strategy has worked best for me!

I have listened to your podcast, and have really loved them. I just downloaded it a couple days ago, thats how I found this site. I listed to all of the old podcasts, and now listen to them daily at work. Thanks!!
One question, do you think it is worth drafting Gates in the 3rd maybe 4th round if he lasted that long? Is he just as good or close to some top recievers considering the depth at reciever, and the fact that he is the undisputed top TE?

If you miss out on the top TE's, a nice sleeper to grab in the last couple of rounds is Bo Scaife of Tennessee.
- 3rd on the Titans in receptions in 2006, despite splitting time with Ben Troupe - Former Texas teammate of Vince Young. - Ben Troupe LIVES on the Titans injury report.

I'm not big on drafting Gates in round 3. That is where he is likely to go. I went into details why on the TE analysis podcast.
