I participated in my very first FF draft two weeks ago. Thanks to the Sultan of Stats, I used your matrix to identify values and priorities. It all went great. I thought I got some great values until after the draft when I learned more details on the scoring and starting lineups. (14 team, 15 round league).
I went into the draft thinking running back, running back, running back. So I drafted three in the 1st four rounds. I ended up with Westbrook, McGahee and Edjerrin James. I drafted Terrel Owens in the 3rd. (Later I drafted Julius Jones and Kevin Faulk)
But the lesson I learned is, know the scoring system and active lineup plan before the draft. because it ends up that I have to start three wide receivers and only two running backs. I do not think we get a point per catch, only a point per 10 yards.
The only other active receivers I drafted were Andre Johnson and Mark Clayton. (My last pick, I took Chris Henry knowing he was inactive for 8 weeks, but could pay off big for the stretch run)
So my question is this: I was approached after the draft with a trade request. I was offered Roy Williams and Reggie Brown for Edjerrin James. When I look at my receiver situation, I have two with bye weeks at the same time and I'll have to use two precious waiver claims (after 10, it costs me $5) that week to have active wide receivers. Would you recommend I make that trade given the league rules?
(I also drafted Dallas Clark, Eli Manning, Rex Grossman, Denver defense, Steve Gostkowski and something different, the Vikings Special Teams)
How would you rate my first draft. Based on your rankings of a number of these players, I think I got some good values. Thanks for the site and the podcasts. I plan on leaving feedback and clicking on your sponsor's links.
I hope this was not too long, but I thought my experience my benefit other's that are still preparing for a draft. Know the league rules and scoring system and prioritize your draft choices accordingly.
